— The challenge
The doctor — a well-regarded specialist with years of excellent patient care — came to us because their online reputation no longer reflected the quality of their work. A small number of angry reviews, at least one of which appeared to be from someone who was never a patient, had dragged their Google rating down to 3.1 stars. Worse, a negative article was ranking in position 2 for their name.
The impact was real and measurable: with 84% of patients checking reviews before booking, new-patient inquiries had started to fall.
— The diagnosis
The Google rating was being driven down by 2 policy-violating reviews — one from a non-patient, one duplicated.
The negative article was hosted on a mid-authority site — movable with the right positive assets.
Healthgrades and RateMDs profiles were thin and outdated, letting negatives dominate.
The doctor had never asked satisfied patients to leave one, so negatives carried disproportionate weight.
Most of the negative reviews were genuine and couldn't be deleted — but two qualified for removal, and the rest could be outweighed and the article suppressed. We told the doctor exactly that before starting.
— The approach
Reported and removed the 2 policy-violating reviews with proper evidence.
Built and ranked authoritative content and profiles above it, pushing it from position 2 to page 4.
Set up an ethical review-generation system so satisfied patients could easily leave one — lifting rating and freshness across Google, Healthgrades, and RateMDs.
Put monitoring in place so new negative reviews are caught and handled early.
— The results
— Physician, name withheld
We didn’t promise to delete every negative review — that would have been dishonest, and impossible. We removed what legitimately qualified, outweighed the rest with real patient voices, suppressed the article, and protected the result. For doctors, whose entire reputation rests on trust, that honest, methodical approach is exactly what works.
